Questions

The questions families ask.

Short, plain answers. If yours isn’t here, call and ask us.

Call any time. Confidential. A real person answers.

Getting started

How do I know if detox is needed?

You don’t have to work that out alone. If you feel sick, shaky, or anxious when you stop, or you drink or use every day, a medical assessment is the way to find out. Call us and we’ll talk it through.

Is it confidential?

Yes. Substance use treatment records are protected by federal privacy law, and we do not share your information without your permission except where the law requires it.

Can I leave if I change my mind?

Treatment here is voluntary. If you’re thinking about leaving, we’ll ask you to talk with your care team first so you can make the decision with good information.

What if I’ve relapsed before?

Then you already know more than you did the first time. Many people need more than one try. Coming back is not failing, and nobody here will treat it that way.

How do I help someone who doesn’t want help?

You can’t make the decision for them, but you can make the next step easy. Learn what treatment involves, tell them plainly that you’re worried, and have a number ready. You can call us yourself to talk through it. A person answers every call, day or night.

Insurance and cost

Do you take my insurance?

The fastest way to know is to let us check. We are opening to serve people with Indiana Medicaid. We do not have contracts with commercial insurers yet, so if you have commercial insurance, call us and we will tell you plainly where things stand.

Do you accept Indiana Medicaid?

Yes. From the day we open, we will work with Indiana Medicaid plans, including Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP), Hoosier Healthwise, and Hoosier Care Connect. Call us and we will check your specific plan.

What does it cost?

It depends on your coverage. We check your benefits and tell you what to expect before you arrive.

Detox

Will I be sedated or on medication?

Medication decisions are made by the medical team with you, based on your assessment. Medications for addiction treatment are available through our prescribers when they are right for you.

What if I have a mental health diagnosis too?

Tell us. Mental health and substance use often go together, and your care team needs the whole picture.

Residential life

How long is the stay?

Your care team and you decide that together, based on how you’re doing. We plan around stays of about 30 days, and yours may be shorter or longer.

Can I bring my phone?

Evenings include time set aside for family calls.

What should I pack?

Comfortable clothes for about a week, and any current medications in their original containers.

Can I work or go to school during treatment?

Residential treatment is a full-time commitment, so most people step away from work or school for a while. We can help you think through leave and paperwork.

What about smoking and vaping?

There is a covered outdoor smoking area on campus, with breaks built into the day.

Do you help with transportation?

Most people arrive by car, and no scheduled bus or train runs to Wheatfield itself. Tell us where you’re coming from when you call and we’ll help you plan the trip.

Family

Can family visit?

Family is part of recovery here. Our sample weekend sets aside the early afternoon for family visiting and a family session.

After treatment

What happens after I leave?

We stay with you. You leave with a named navigator, a written plan, and your next appointments already booked. We call within 48 hours, every week for the first month, and we keep checking in for five years. The alumni community is yours for life.

What is the alumni program?

Two things working together. A community: a weekly group, a monthly outing, and people who know you. And a clinical pathway: a navigator who calls on a schedule, checkups with a licensed clinician, and a fast way back into care if you need it.

What if I use again after I leave?

We don’t close the door. A return to use means you need more support, and that is when we lean in. A licensed clinician reviews what you need, we help you get to the right care quickly, and you stay part of the community.
